Directors, Central Sterile Processing
We’re changing the future of healthcare. You can help lead the way.
As winner of the 2010 National Quality Forum (NQF) National Quality Healthcare Award, North Shore-LIJ is committed to providing our patients with the highest quality service. Quality is not simply a program or an act, it’s our culture and no where is it more exemplified than within our Central Sterile departments where our team members work diligently to ensure that each and every surgical instrument is properly decontaminated, sterilized, well-functioning, and available when needed before a surgeon can make the first incision.
To ensure that we maintain these high standards, we now seek three Directors for the Central Sterile departments at the following tertiary hospitals: Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan; North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park.
As inspired (and inspiring) leaders, you will be responsible for maintaining best practices, implementing sterilization protocols and utilizing performance indicators that highlight areas in need of improvement. As such, we will look to you to be change agents who challenge conventional thinking by developing innovative process improvement initiatives. Each of you will also manage a staff of 30-40 unsung heroes who play a critical role in the successful outcomes for some of the 30,000 procedures that occur throughout our health system annually. Overseeing the finances and budgets for your respective departments are also key responsibilities.
Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree, as well as recent hands-on experience and certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST). At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in an acute care hospital setting and excellent oral and written communication skills are also required. In lieu of a Degree, we will consider certified candidates with 10-12 years of recent experience. Surgical instrumentation experience and experience within a large hospital setting are preferred, but not required.
As the nation’s second-largest, non-profit, secular healthcare system – comprised of 15 hospitals – North Shore-LIJ is committed to providing you with the support, resources, training and opportunities you need to achieve greater things, every day. This includes a competitive compensation and benefits package; continuing education opportunities; collaboration with a professional, multidisciplinary team, and working within a state-of-the-art environment. We are also planning to break ground in 2012 on a new sterile processing facility that will enable central sterile professionals to hone current skills and learn the latest techniques.
